Weeping Tile Installation in Vermont & Western New Hampshire

Weeping Tile Installation

A weeping tile (also called a drain tile or perimeter tile) is a porous pipe used for underground water collection. It is designed with small slits or weep holes in it that allow groundwater to pass, which is buried surrounded by aggregate larger than the slits. The aggregate rocks prevent excessive soil from going through the slits into the weeping tile while water in the surrounding soil above the weeping tile flows into the weeping tile.

The weeping tile then drains into a sump pump system, where the water can be discharged by a sump pump. Use weeping tiles combined with our high-performance GrateSump™ for maximum protection and a dry basement.

What Makes Weeping Tiles Effective?

  • Clog-Resistant - Specially designed weep holes (or slits) allow groundwater to enter the pipe and prevents larger materials that could block the system
  • Clear Drain Outlet - A big drain outlet connected directly to a sump pump ensures proper water discharge and a waterproof system.
  • Prevents Foundation Damage - Structural damage can be avoided by installing weeping tiles that do not allow water to collect against the foundation wall.

Twin State Basements’ Expert Recommendations for Weeping Tile Installation

  • Don’t Rely on “Gravity Drains” - Some contractors will install a gravity drain system that is supposed to remove the water without any mechanical help. But for a system like that to work, the gravity drains need to run downhill but your basement is already underground.
  • Get a Sump Pump Installed - Removing the groundwater actively using a sump pump system is the most reliable option. Moreover, sump pumps will clog less and work more efficiently compared to gravity drains.
  • Install Weeping Tile On the Interior - Researches have shown, a weeping tile works better when installed on the inside of your basement rather than outside. Additionally, you will save half the price of installing it on the exterior.
